Oakville Transit buses could be rolling again by Friday morning.

On the first day of resuming talks, a tentative deal has been struck late Wednesday afternoon (March 2) between the Town of Oakville and the union representing striking Oakville Transit drivers and mechanics.

Unifor Local 1256, which represent the workers, will present the new tentative agreement to their union members for a vote on Thursday.

Town Council will also vote on the deal tomorrow.

Should both sides ratify the deal, Oakville Transit buses could be back and operating as early as Friday morning.

The collective agreement with the union expired on Jan. 31, 2022.

The Town said its bargaining team and the union had previously reached a tentative settlement on Feb. 8, however the settlement was rejected by its members in a ratification vote on Sunday (Feb. 13).

The union members are seeking higher wages, top-up pay for drivers who, if they work 38 hours, will be topped up to 40 hours, better language for casual workers and more paid sick days.
