Town seeks public input on ways to help people travel in Oakville

Oakville is looking for your input on helping people travel in more “sustainable ways” in the future.

In an effort to prepare for future growth and address the evolving needs of the community, the Town is providing local residents the opportunity to share their feedback on the Urban Mobility and Transportation Strategy (UMTS).

The comprehensive transportation plan is being established in two stages of work – through the Urban Mobility and Transportation Strategy and an update to the town’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP).

First presented to Council at a meeting back in Feb. of 2022, the UMTS is a policy framework document to guide the linkage between land use and transportation.

Town staff is now conducting public consultation to educate the community about the UMTS, its findings and recommendations.

The TMP update will establish a plan with policies, programs and infrastructure improvements to enhance mobility for all road users, with a focus on improvements to support more sustainable modes of travel such as walking, cycling and transit.

Residents are encouraged to learn more by attending an open house on Thursday, June 22, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the South Atrium at Town Hall, located at 1225 Trafalgar Rd.

“We look forward to input from residents on the Urban Mobility and Transportation Strategy as we plan for the town’s future growth and look at ways to help people travel in more sustainable ways,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton.

“Public feedback will help inform Council and staff in the development of viable travel choices for our vibrant and livable community.”

Local residents can also review the  UTMS policy document on oakville.ca and provide input to the town by email before Aug. 13, 2023. Comments can be sent to Eric Chan, manager, Transportation Planning at [email protected].

A staff report including a summary of public feedback gathered through the consultation process will go forward to Council this fall to help inform Council on the strategy for approval.
