Town of Whitby needs people to fill committee vacancies

If the urge to have your say on what goes on in your town goes beyond a rant on social media, the Town of Whitby may have just the thing for you.

The Town is looking for citizens to sit on various committees and have eight current openings on four different committees.

The Whitby Sustainability Advisory Committee is currently seeking four candidates to serve on the Committee for the remainder of the 2018-2022 term. The Whitby Sustainability Advisory Committee is responsible for promoting sustainability, supporting environmental management, and responding to climate change by providing advice to Council, supporting education and awareness in the community and assisting the Town to identify, develop and implement strategies and policies.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee is looking for two candidates to serve on the committee for the remainder of the 2018-2022 term. The Accessibility Advisory Committee advises Council about the requirements and implementation of Ontario’s accessibility standards. To meet Provincial requirements, the majority of Accessibility Advisory Committee members must be people with disabilities.

The Brooklin Downtown Development Steering Committee wants one candidate to serve on the committee for the remainder of the 2018-2022 term. The Brooklin Downtown Development Steering Committee is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Downtown Brooklin Strategic Action Plan, providing input on the formulation of recommendations on specific tactics to meet the objectives of the plan, and supporting and promoting downtown initiatives.

The Downtown Whitby Development Steering Committee needs one person to serve on the Committee for the remainder of the 2018-2022 term. The Downtown Whitby Development Steering Committee is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Downtown Whitby Strategic Action Plan to make Downtown Whitby a more sustainable and attractive place to live, shop, work, and visit while preserving the historical and traditional character of the downtown.

Any Whitby resident, tenant or property owner, 18-years-old or older, can apply for a citizen board vacancy.
