Seniors and persons with disabilities will soon be able to apply for the Town of Milton’s windrow removal program to help clear piles of snow accumulated at the end of a driveway once the roads have been plowed.

Beginning Oct. 27 at 7:00 a.m., residents may apply online or visit the Milton Seniors’ Activity Centre in-person on Oct. 29 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The removal program is being offered to Milton residents who are 65 years of age or older or those who are physically unable to clear the windrows themselves and have no able-bodied persons under the age of 65 living with them.

The program begins on Dec. 1 and ends on March 31 and service begins every time a snowfall exceeds 10 cm.

Once the Town has completed the plowing of all of the roads, smaller plow units are then dispatched to each approved registrants’ address. The windrows formed at the bottom of the driveway are then plowed off to the side.

Residents are reminded that it will be at least 24 hours after all the roads have been plowed before the windrow removal service is completed. This is dependent on the number of program registrants.

The program does not include the removal of snow windrows created by sidewalk plows and the plowing of driveways.

The fee for the program is $63 and financial assistance is available.
