The Town of Halton Hills has received an additional round of Digital Main Street (DMS) funding in order to continue digital support services to small businesses that suffered from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The town has received a $98,000 Digital Service Squad (DSS) grant, which will allow the municipality to employ a coordinator who will provide personalized support as well as administer other DMS programs to brick-and-mortar small businesses until the end of 2023.

The DMS coordinator will be able to provide assistance in areas such as developing a Google My Business profile, enhancing their social media presence and providing support for a basic website and e-commerce setup.

“Our businesses have been able to find great value from the services provided through the Digital Main Street Program over the past few years,” said Mayor Bonnette.

“Given that our local businesses are still feeling the impacts of the pandemic and COVID-19 is still in the forefront of our minds, I’m very pleased that we are able to continue the program.”

The first round of funding, which was received in September 2020, enabled the Town to support almost 70 small businesses and help them advance their e-commerce efforts with approximately $50,000 in grants. Another round of funding was received in 2021 for six months.

The programs have supported more than 130 businesses and have helped business owners access $150,000 in grants to upgrade their digital technologies.

From now until October 31, 2022, or until grant funds are exhausted, qualified small businesses will be able to apply for $2,500 Digital Transformation Grants (DTG).

Eligibility requirements include having under 50 employees, a physical brick-and-mortar location and paying commercial property tax.
