The Town of Halton Hills has issued a statement regarding “erroneous” information that has been circulating in the community regarding an unmarked Indigenous burial site in Glen Williams.

In a statement issued on July 13, the Town confirmed that they are not the landowner of the site.

“Local knowledge suggests that the remains were repatriated to the appropriate nation and reinterred around the Kleinberg area, however, staff have been unable to find a source to confirm this information,” read the statement.

The statement continued by saying that the Town has no other knowledge on the issue and that they respect the provincial jurisdiction of the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, which are responsible for managing archeological resources.

“The Town of Halton Hills is committed to developing meaningful relationships with Indigenous Nations and peoples and working collaboratively on consultation and engagement opportunities for protocols, projects and education.”
