Members of Niagara OPP are reminding drivers to “know your tow” after a tow truck driver attended a collision scene and blew four times over the legal BAC limit.

The collision happened last night (Sept. 23) on the QEW near Gilmore Rd. and involved a dark coloured sprinter van.

Police do not provide details about the initial collision, but they do report that after a flat-bed tow truck arrived on scene, officers suspected impairment and conducted a roadside alcohol screening test on the driver.

The test revealed that the tow driver had a BAC of four times over the legal limit. They were subsequently arrested and charged for impaired driving.

An image shared by police shows a bag filled with empty beer cans in the backseat of the tow truck.

Another larger, flat-bed tow truck was called to the scene in order to take the first truck away as the driver’s impairment charge involves a 90-day license suspension and 7-day vehicle impoundment.
