Toronto man faces 18 charges following gunpoint takedown in Mississauga

A man was arrested at gunpoint and charged with 18 crimes after a police pursuit that started in Richmond Hill ended in Mississauga.

Police today supplied information about the incident which occurred last Thursday (March 10) at around 11:30 p.m. when a driver of vehicle sped away after being stopped by officers. The car was then spotted in the area of Yonge St. near Highway 407 running several red lights.

The York Regional Police helicopter kept track of the vehicle until it arrived in Mississauga where investigators were waiting for the suspect with guns drawn.

While searching the vehicle police say they found a handgun and cocaine.

Daggem Tsegaye, 25, now faces 18 charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, tampering with a serial number of a firearm, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

Police say their investigation continues in this matter.
