A Toronto man has been charged with fraud after allegedly attempting to open a bank account in Whitby using fraudulent identification documents.
Police were called to the CIBC branch on Taunton Road at 4 p.m. last Thursday after bank staff became concerned about a man trying to open a bank account. Officers arrived and took the suspect into custody. A search produced multiple banking cards not in his name.
At the time of his arrest, the accused was wanted by several other police services for similar offences. He was also already bound by conditions not to possess any banking documents or cards not in his name.
Rodrigo Martinez-Palacios, 27ARTINEZ-PALACIOS, age 27 from Toronto is charged with fraud (under $5,000), three counts of possession of false identity documents, uttering a forged document and three fail to comply or probation breaches.
He was held for a bail hearing.
