A top spot for all kinds of high-end sushi in Mississauga is opening its first-ever Toronto location, and seafood lovers in the city aren’t ready.

Shiroshi is known for its beautiful presentation of perfectly prepared sushi, and now the restaurant is bringing that reputation for raw fish to downtown Toronto.

The restaurant offers beautiful jewel boxes of sushi for takeout, with different combinations of nigiri, sashimi and rolls. Shiroshi is also especially well known for its aburi (or torched) sushi, made with various ingredients and then torched for a charred effect on top.

There’s the Aburi Shiro with deep-fried fish, cucumber, avocado, and crab meat with mayo, all topped with yellowtail and Shiroshi house sauce, then finished off with crunchy Rice Krispies. The Aburi Honey Mustard roll is made with BBQ eel, cucumber, avocado, crab stick, is topped with butterfish and honey mustard sauce and finished with black tobiko.

For some spicy options, there’s the Aburi Fire, made with tempura shrimp, cucumber, avocado, and crab meat with mayo, topped with salmon, spicy mayo, and eel sauce, and finished with parsley. The Aburi Jalapeno roll comes with cucumber, avocado and crab stick topped with tuna, wasabi mayo and eel sauce, and is finished with jalapeño.

Shiroshi also serves special aburi tray combos, omakase boxes, and luxury sashimi boxes.

The restaurant also serves an impressive array of donburi, which are essentially rice bowls with raw fish on top, including upscale options such as Hokkaido sea urchin, bluefin tuna belly, salmon belly, salmon roe and Hokkaido scallop.

Shiroshi also offers catering services and does events, and the restaurant even offers its own loyalty program where you can collect points and redeem them for free top-of-the-line sushi. Now that’s what I call an investment for foodies who love to save big on premium seafood.

The best part is, the new location will be right on Queen West.

“We redefine the essence of sushi by blending affordable luxury with minimalist elegance. Our dedication lies in carefully selecting the finest ingredients,” reads the official website for Shiroshi.

“We meticulously source superior ingredients to bring out authentic flavours, elevating sushi to an art form. Our commitment to excellence is mirrored in our presentation, where simplicity meets sophistication, turning each dish into a refined expression of taste.”

Shiroshi in downtown Toronto should be soft opening at 1128 Queen St. W. on May 26.
