Top 5 Places to Get Thai Food in Brampton

When I think of Asian cuisine, I usually think of Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Indian. Although I sometimes overlook Thai food, I know I shouldn’t–it’s an absolute gem of a cuisine. That said, if you – like me – are the type of person who generally sticks to what you already know, it may be time to venture out and try something a bit different. May I recommend Thai? The advantage of Thai food in Brampton is that there are some really strong options for mixed Asian cuisine (to satisfy your less adventurous friends, try one that also serves pho or Indian dishes as well) and a few of solid exclusively Thai places.

Without further hesitation, here are the top five places to find Thai food in Brampton:

5) Saigon House

During my recent visit to Saigon House’ 7 Centre location, it was pretty clear that this Vietnamese/Thai restaurant is a local favourite; even at 11:00 a.m. on a Monday, the place was quite busy, with lots of friends sharing a quick bite over lunch during the work week.  The layout and seating arrangement was nothing spectacular, similar to a standard Pho destination, so expect to seat yourself, write your items of choice on a slip and await your meal. The pad Thai and shrimp basil fried rice, both of which were beautifully presented, immediately piqued my interest. The basil rice was my personal favourite. With minimal grease, lots of flavour and rather large, quality pieces of shrimp throughout, it was a delightful treat (also, the portion was generous). The server was attentive and quick, and the turnaround for our food was exceptional. This place is good to hit up if you’re in the mood for Thai or pho.

4) Freshly Thai

Freshly Thai is located right in the heart of Brampton at Queen and Main. The central location probably makes it the most popular place in Brampton to order Thai food. With its wide selection of options, there’s something for everyone.  I ordered the coconut panang curry and a pad Thai. The food was not too heavy and well prepared; the vegetables were notably fresh. I appreciated that they had large sharable portions, but also several lunch options for customers who were looking to enjoy their own plate. With an excellent location and some good eats, Freshly Thai is a strong choice for Thai in Brampton.

3) Hakka No. 1

When researching this place, I was very intrigued by its menu, so I thought I’d give it a try. I was very pleasantly surprised. Although online reviews for this resto are inconsistent, I can without a doubt say that both the items I ordered were phenomenal.  The Thai shrimp red curry was creamy, wonderfully spiced and filled with giant prawns; I would definitely consider reordering this dish when I visit again.  Even better was the Thai chili shrimp: deep fried, doused in a dry chili rub with just a bit of sauce to glaze.  Of all the restaurants I visited, this dish was my favourite, definitely something I will recommend for any sucker for spice.  In fact, if you’re in the Steels and Bramalea area, I recommend you give the dish a try.

2) Lily Thai Cusine

For those who expect the beauty of a restaurant’s decor to match the quality of its food, Lily Thai is the place to visit. With an elegant interior, dim lighting and comfortable seating, this restaurant offers a very comfortable setting for a delicious meal. The Bangkok street-style pad Thai was a generous portion and very tasty.  My favourite item, however, was the coconut shrimp, which had fresh shavings of coconut melded into a deep-fried batter. The meal was prepared quickly and the server was attentive.  For a treat in a suburban setting, check out Lily Thai Cusine, located just east of Bovaird and James Potter/Creditview.

1) Thai Pepper

Hands down, Thai Pepper has the best quality Thai food in Brampton.  I was super impressed with the quality, quantity and cost; what more could you ask for? Located not too far from Sandalwood and Hurontario, Thai Pepper’s meagre decor in its unassuming plaza is completely contrary to the amazing cuisine found within.  The menu offered several different choices, classics and unique specialties. Fortunately, the affordable prices made it easy for me to not feel too bad about indulging in a few items. My personal favourite was the ever classic shrimp tom yum soup, which boasted the  perfect amount of spice and came with huge, good quality prawns. I also thoroughly enjoyed the basil fried rice. Considering that I tasted but a morsel of the wide selection Thai Pepper has to offer, I will soon visit again. Be warned, if you are in a rush, Thai Pepper may not be the best option for you; if you are looking to eat a delicious meal and spend time relaxing with a friend, you’ve come to the right place.
