Top 5 Nachos in Burlington

Published December 7, 2017 at 8:17 pm

Nachos are the perfect share platter for long-time friends, new-ish lovers who can’t seem to drag themselves out of bed, or a even a low-key networking meeting. They’re fun, messy, and if you’re lucky you just might see someone lose a few jalapeno slices down their shirt. We’ve been eating our way across the city, searching all over for the finest chips and cheese and veggie/meat combos, and at last, here are our picks for the top 5 nachos in Burlington!

5. The Coop Wicked Chicken

There’s good chicken and there’s chicken that’s tasty as cluck (that wasn’t a typo). Brant St. is home to this fun, laidback resto … you may recognize the name from Hamilton’s original King St. W. location. Doors opened in March 2017 and locals are flocking to the place. Featuring lunch, dinner, and boozy weekend brunch, Coop Wicked Chicken offers fresh in-house food made with high-quality ingredients. Offerings include Deep-Fried Deviled Eggs (fantastic!), Sriracha Honey Cauliflower (for the vegans in your life), Hardcore Pulled Chicken Poutine, and Chicken & Waffles topped with an egg — this was absolutely phenomenal. The atmosphere is unpretentious and fun. Service is great. If you’re a chicken when it comes to heat, consider yourself warned. This platter of Nashville Chicken Nachos is delicious and pretty spicy (and I grew up on hot foods … trust). There’s also a Mexi Beef or Veg option. The resto has added a digital vending machine for soft drinks (just like ones movie theatres use now) so you can get up and refill your own cups.

What makes these nachos awesome: The chicken is superb.

Price: $23.99.

4. Squires Public House

The Deluxe Nachos are all you need when you’re trading scandalous tales with a powerful man whose dimples are ridiculously adorable. Feta cheese, onions, olives, black beans, tomatoes, and peppers top these unbelievably addictive chips, while salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and jalapenos are served on the side. Yum! Once I started, it was hard to stop. (There’s also Irish Nachos on the menu, with kettle chips, mixed cheese, and cajun spice — it’s served in a tortilla bowl). This long-running Fairview St. pub has a loyal following, and it’s a family-friendly place, with lots of booths and plenty of sports enthusiasts by the bar. Servers know the regulars by name. Mostly known for fish and chips, the casual restaurant offers super-friendly service. While you’re there, sample the Baked Bacon Mac and Cheese. It arrives in a cast-iron skillet with a cute little mitt. Clearly, it’s been in the oven. It has a four-cheese blend, elbow macaroni, bacon, and house-made cheese sauce. It’s delicious. There’s no salt, and I’m down with that because bacon is salty and I’d rather no salt than too much. Next time you’re in the mood for something hot, cheesy, and filling, you should try it.

What makes these nachos awesome: The chips are fantastic and you don’t even realize there’s no meat.

Price: $16.99.

3. QB’s

Two words for you: Taco Nachos. This long-running sports bar on Fairview St. has been pleasing kids and their exhausted parents for years (yup, kids — there’s an arcade for youngins, and a separate bar area for grown-ups). These nachos began with a corn tortilla chip base that’s covered in taco-seasoned ground beef, a blend of shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese, diced tomatoes, green onions, and jalapenos. It’s served with house-made salsa and sour cream. (There are also Chili Nachos and Cheese Nachos for about the same price). They’re simply fantastic! If you love football, you’ll love this place.

What makes these nachos awesome: Tasty chips, tasty toppings. It all just works. So, so good!

Price: $15.99.

2. Barque

(closed down)

Go for the brisket … leave having sampled everything because the ravenous carnivore in you will surface and the meat is *that* damn fantastic. Barque Smokehouse first opened in Toronto’s west-end Roncesvalles Village in 2011, heading further west to Burlington in summer 2017. Once you’re seated, you’re served popcorn and complimentary sparkling water. Don’t look at the menu. Just order the Korean BBQ Nachos. It’s amazing. The dish features spiced wontons, gochujang meat chili, jalapenos, pineapple (to offset the heat), cheese, and delicious Alabama White BBQ sauce drizzled on top. It’ll probably make your day. As for the popcorn … You might sneeze or cough but you must keep snacking. (Turn the container upside down, RIGHT over your mouth, if no one is watching). The seats are so comfy, the vibe is fun and casual chic, and the meat speaks for itself. Barque serves locally grown ingredients when possible. The menu also offers Southern Fried Chicken, Baby Back Ribs, Pulled Pork, and Smoked Wings. Service is awesome.

What makes these nachos awesome: The pineapple and jalapenos taste fantastic with the meat.

Price: $11.

1. Tin Cup

Too many Oakville and Burlington peeps at my gym rave about Tin Cup Sports Grill (there are locations in both places), so we finally folded and tried these legendary nachos. Real talk: this was the best platter, hands down, in the city. Tin Cup Nachos have thick, juicy slices of real chicken breast that’s tender and generously distributed. Once you’re full on meat, dig into the grilled bell peppers and onions, smoked cheddar, and queso cheese sauce. Yum! Multi-coloured chips take this dish over the edge. We also loved the Sesame Chicken Bowl – yum! This Walkers Line bar is a legit spot for late-night eats, regardless of whether you’re there to watch the big game. If you haven’t been, you must go and devour the best nachos in Burlington!

What makes these nachos awesome: Quality ingredients. ‘Nuff said.

Price: $20.50.

BONUS: Lettuce Love Cafe

Delicious bites await at this tiny vegan/gluten-free eatery renowned for its menu. These nachos though … it’s a really big portion that’s going to fill you right up. Organic corn tortilla chips are topped with tempeh chilli, Daiya cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, salsa, sour cream, and a very generous serving of diced avocados. Delicious! This eatery simultaneously helps you stay on track with your fitness goals and hits all numerous cravings. Speaking of which, we’ve got some more recos while you’re there. Try the Power Bowl, a nutritious dish made up of organic steamed quinoa, grilled sweet potatoes, black beans, braised kale, avocado, grilled portobello mushroom, brazil nut parmesan, and lemon tahini sauce. It was beyond delicious and full of so many complementary flavours. It was chased with an ice-cold chocolate smoothie comprised of almond milk, raw cacao powder, cacao butter, coconut oil, bananas, dates, cacao nibs, and sea salt. It wasn’t a sweet drink and I loved everything about it.

What makes these nachos awesome: The non-dairy sour cream is amazing — it’s super creamy and tastes like the real thing.

Price: $18.
