5) Green Grotto
Green Grotto Tea Room is a new bubble tea spot hidden in the Grand Park Plaza along Burnhamthorpe, just east of Mavis. The independent tea room prepares authentic bubble tea using traditional tea brewing methods that you can taste with your first sip. It also offers Taiwanese hot meals. Other perks include free Wi-Fi, chill tunes and a reading lounge with Asian specific magazines such as Vivi, Muse and Mina that feature anything from the arts and culture scene in Hong Kong to the fashion scene in Japan (these typically cost an arm and a leg to subscribe to). The bar staff traditionally prepares batches of loose leaf green, black and oolong teas multiple times a day for the 50+ tea drinks on the menu.
Don't you just love discovering a 32-year-old gem for the first time? Even better, isn't it great when your better-late-than-never discovery makes you realize you'll be back? Well Enzo's Two Guys From Italy is that place. Not the fanciest restaurant (it still has an 80s-style enclosed smoking glass cage), the food at the long-standing Streetsville resto is on point. We had stuffed sole, ravioli, and to top it off, deep dish pizza. It's only the second place we know that has it. The pizza was fresh, baked perfectly and the meat topping made it amazing! The dough was also super fresh.
Located in a plaza at the southwest corner of Mississauga on Royal Windsor and Southdown (yes, that is still Mississauga) is one of the best kept Italian restaurants in the city called Casalinga. This place can’t be any bigger than 40 seats and gets packed pretty fast, especially on weekends. They offer house-made gnocchi (small dumplings made from potato, semolina or flour that are usually served with sauce) and house-made gnocchi is usually hard to find, especially in Mississauga. That right there says a lot about the restaurant. We ordered the potato gnocchi that came with lamb, caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic, mushrooms and tomato sauce. The dish was absolutely delicious and the gnocchi melted in our mouths. You won’t be hungry after eating something this generously portioned. They also have thin crust pizza cooked in a stone oven. Casalinga has been around for just over three years, and if they keep serving this hearty Italian food, they will be here for generations to come.
Located in the heart of Mississauga's City Centre is Alioli's Italian Restaurant, one of the few restaurants in City Centre that is independently owned. Alioli's has been around since 1996 and was founded right after Biritz Night Club closed down. This place is great for corporate business lunches and date nights with that special person, as the wine list is extensive and the atmosphere is sophisticated. The service is impeccable and the food is absolutely delicious. In the summer, they have a gorgeous huge patio that doubles the size of the restaurant. With the price point leaning on the higher scale, perhaps save this restaurant for that special person or that big deal meeting.
Look out Mississauga! Chef Massimo Capra and his signature ‘stache and big personality are in our city. Chef Massimo recently opened a restaurant called Capra’s Kitchen in his hometown of Mississauga in the former Villa La Bella space along Lakeshore Rd. in the Clarkson neighbourhood. Chef Massimo is an accomplished celebrity chef, TV personality, author and Saugaboy who has an extensive resume. Starting from the ground up, his career began when he first started toiling in kitchens in Italy. He made his way to Toronto in the early 80s and worked in a few notable fine dining establishments in the city. His brand new restaurant offers lunch, dinner and weekend brunch and his menu is full of delicious, classic Italian fare that's sure to leave every diner satisfied.
