The Maharaja is an incredibly stunning boutique restaurant inspired by the regal beauty of India’s diverse landscape of architecture and flavours. The concept offers a visual and culinary journey through three magnificent palaces of India and a menu featuring cuisine from four different regions in India. The storybook menu is divided into four regional cuisines found in India which have been influenced by various ingredients and flavours of a variety of countries including Greece, West and Central Asia and Persia. There are a number of shareable dishes and entrees highlighting the unique flavours of each region through Awadhi cuisine, classic Hyderabadi cuisine, Punjabi cuisine and Rajputana cuisine. The extensive menu caters to all palates and features distinct regional dishes presented on fine dishes such as copper bowls, slate boards, and copper table top grill.
It looks like Mississauga’s once spartan ramen scene is exploding. Recently, Sansotei Ramen opened its doors in Square One--making City Centre a new mecca for ramen. Sansotei, which currently operates locations in Toronto, North York, Markham, Ottawa and Richmond Hill, is known for both the long lineups it tends to generate and its small but satisfying menu. Some soups on the menu include tonkotsu ramen, tonkotsu black ramen, miso black ramen, shoyu ramen, spicy tan tan ramen and tomato ramen. According to Sansotei’s website, the resto’s ramen broth is freshly made everyday with pork bone. Diners can also choose thick or thin noodles and add extra toppings (think chashu, eggs, mushrooms, green onion and more) for an additional charge.
You know you’ve passed by this place, located on the east side of HWY 10 on Lakeshore in Port Credit, so many times. Boasting a big blue exterior, you can’t miss it (and you don’t want to). This place is especially nice in the summer, as it has a gorgeous and huge patio overlooking Port Credit. This is a higher-end Greek restaurant that has a real traditional Greek feel to it. We assume it has that traditional high-end Greek feel to it because, according to our server, the owner also owns a five-star restaurant in Greece. The server also said the only difference between a five-star Greek place and this one is that a five-star doesn't serve pita.
The Wilcox Gastropub is located on the corner of Hurontario and Eglinton and is situated in the Wilcox House - one of Mississauga’s oldest Heritage Homes which features Greek and Gothic detailing and was built by Amos and Charles Wilcox in 1850. In a place that serves everything from pork sliders to poutine, Scotch egg, ceviche, cassava frites, braised short ribs, an 18oz bone-in rib eye steak and confit of duck leg I’m going straight to the burger. This is one of their signature dishes here called The Wilcox Burger and it didn’t disappoint. The beef is grounded daily and the only one on this list that actually bakes their brioche buns daily. Now that’s dedication!
1) Congee Queen
After months of waiting, a highly-anticipated (and massive) Asian restaurant recently opened its doors in Mississauga. The spacious, chic and tasty Congee Queen in Heartland Town Centre is a welcome addition to Mississauga’s thriving Asian food scene and it hit the ground running with its elegant interior and massive menu. The brand, which also operates locations in Thornhill, North York, Markham, Scarborough and a few other GTA neighbourhoods, is located right beside the newly opened Seafood City Supermarket on Boyer Blvd. As far as food goes, the resto offers lobster super bowl congee, pumpkin hot pot congee with rock crab meat and vegetarian shark fins (which is perfect for shark fin fans who don't feel comfortable eating the controversial and, in some cases, deeply unethical delicacy), sliced fish and blood jello congee, pork internal delicacy congee and more. As for what dishes are most worth trying, the house super bowl congee is a must.
