Although Mississauga has a substantial waterfront (and one that's slated to undergo incredible redevelopment, no less), its waterside food scene has always been dominated by the popular (some might argue iconic) Snug Harbour. That's no longer the case. The owners of the incredibly successful Toronto gem Cafe Diplomatico—located right in the heart of the bustling Little Italy neighbourhood—just opened a brand new waterside restaurant in Mississauga. Posta, the brand new Italian restaurant, took shape in the old post office location at Stavebank and Lakeshore Road. The chic restaurant boasts 9,300 square feet of space—which includes a vast lakeside patio with its very own bar. As far as dining goes, the resto offers dine-in service, takeout options, express counter service, appetizer bars and wine bars. As far as food goes, there is salumi and formaggi, pizza, gelato and more.
The Maharaja is an incredibly stunning boutique restaurant inspired by the regal beauty of India’s diverse landscape of architecture and flavours. The concept offers a visual and culinary journey through three magnificent palaces of India and a menu featuring cuisine from four different regions in India. The storybook menu is divided into four regional cuisines found in India which have been influenced by various ingredients and flavours of a variety of countries including Greece, West and Central Asia and Persia. There are a number of shareable dishes and entrees highlighting the unique flavours of each region through Awadhi cuisine, classic Hyderabadi cuisine, Punjabi cuisine and Rajputana cuisine. The extensive menu caters to all palates and features distinct regional dishes presented on fine dishes such as copper bowls, slate boards, and copper table top grill.
Before we start talking about the food and the restaurant, we’ve got to say that we love the name and where Michael’s is located. The setup is so unlike anything else in Mississauga, as it is located at the back of a building in Clarkson off Lakeshore Road and is almost a secret because it’s completely hidden from public view. As you park in the back alley, you will find a glass solarium protruding from the back. It’s almost like you are walking into a secret location. We love the risotto Pescatore, which has risotto with shrimp, scallops, fresh tomatoes and white wine. This is a perfect place for a date and they even have a piano room that can accommodate 40 people (so it's great for a corporate dinner). They also have a wine room for up to 16, which is great for family parties when you just don’t want to cook at home. Michael’s is expanding so much that it might have a front door one day. Also, Michael’s Back Door has been around since 1981, so you know they’re doing something right.
Streetsville is home to a popular modern, fine-dining Chinese establishment called Bliss Chinese Cuisine that specializes in Chinese seafood, dim sum and BBQ. The expansive restaurant boasts an open concept design with high ceilings and natural sunlight that brightens the space during the dim sum lunch rush. There is a fireplace near the front windows and a private VIP room that seats 30 people. The restaurant is also designed to accommodate corporate conferences and can seat 60 people in the back portion of the facility. The restaurant has a freshwater tank that is home to the seafood you will find on the menu and a BBQ display case that features all the cuts of meat that are barbequed in house. Some of the signature dishes include king lobster, Vancouver crab, Alaska king crab, live green bass, suckling pig and Peking duck.
This exceedingly creative gem sits on the Mississauga and Brampton border and offers an incredible array of North American and Indian fusion dishes. It’s truly one of a kind and offers such creative concoctions as jerk chicken samosas, apple pie samosas, butter chicken mac n’ cheese, butter chicken loaded fries and, most importantly, the Punjabi cheeseburger with tandoori bacon. Founded by Rick Matharu, a Recipe to Riches winner who took the top spot for his butter chicken lasagna, the restaurant does something decidedly unique and pays homage to two distinct food cultures.
