Top 5 Hottest Restaurants in Mississauga: Oct 21 - 27
Here are the 5 hottest restaurants in Mississauga for the week of Oct 21 - 27, based on the amount of organic page views and searches these restaurants received on insauga.com.
Located on the corner of Eglinton and Tomken is a place that you’ve passed by hundreds of times called Peter’s on Eglinton. When you first walk in you, can’t help but think that this is what all restaurants looked like in high-end hotels in the 70s. A quick scan of this place and it’s obvious it’s geared towards an older audience, and low and behold, Hazel McCallion was having her dinner in the booth next to me. I did see a lot of families here and why not? This place is very nice inside, spacious and the food is oh so good with huge portions.
One of the best kept secrets in Mississauga is Fred's Bar & Grill. Locals and regulars already know this, but the lemon tomato grilled calamari is legendary. This place underwent a reno and the new digs offer 26 TVs and two 80" babies on the wall, so there is not a bad vantage point anywhere in the restaurant. You can find Fred's hidden in a small plaza in central Mississauga. It serves up some of the best bar food and has great service. The old faithful don't have to worry, as they have not changed the menu and still have some of the best wings and calamari in the city. This little place is great for chilling, hanging out, watching sports and getting to know and/or impress someone on a date.
3) Dai Ichi
It is surprising to find a sushi place in the midst of a rather eclectic strip mall, steps away from an outdoor furniture retailer and a horse race betting site. This strange spot, the small plaza just south of Longos by Winston Churchill and Laird, is exactly where you will find Dai Ichi. That said, it would be a mistake to let the unique location persuade you that this restaurant has little to offer. Far from it, Dai Ichi is arguably amongst the best Japanese restaurants in Mississauga. When you walk into the restaurant, you will see simple booths leading to a small sushi bar, and one wall of closed japanese-styled seating. Despite the basic setup, the food experience is a sheer delight. The veggie bento box came with all the staples (and all cooked very well): miso soup, rice tea, deep fried tofu with teriyaki sauce, rice, veggie tempura and avocado rolls. The service was fast, and the server was attentive. With it's fine quality food, it's no wonder Dai Ichi is seen as a local hot spot for Japanese eats in southwest Mississauga.
2) Holy Smokez
Located in an unassuming strip plaza on Dundas between Tomken and Dixie is a unique sandwich shop called Holy Smokez BBQ Sandwiches. It’s unique because we really haven’t seen many BBQ-style joints in Mississauga. All the sandwiches are not only barbequed, but cooked over indirect heat and smoked with wood for as long as 18 hours. You will find BBQ sandwiches such as smoked sausage, pulled pork, and pork ‘n’ slaw. You’ll start salivating just reading the menu.
1) Pho Ngoc Yen
No matter what month it is, there’s no food more satisfying or comforting than pho--a signature Vietnamese soup famous for its flavourful broth and hearty toppings. And although most Vietnamese places do pho justice, some produce astounding and exquisite noodle soup (and pork and mango salad and spring rolls, of course) and pair it with an absolutely unforgettable atmosphere. One of those gems is the newly opened Pho Ngoc Yen, a beautifully decorated and stunningly tasty Vietnamese resto that just took shape on Kamato Road in the Tomken and 401 area in Mississauga. As far as food goes, the steaming hot rare beef pho stands up against hearty, delicious soup served in Hanoi. So, too, do the crispy Vietnamese spring rolls, served with delicate, subtle fish sauce. Other commendable dishes include the flavourful and authentic pad Thai--a dish that gets extra points for its spectacular presentation--and the vermicelli with pork. Although this restaurant is hidden, it’s already getting a reputation for being authentic and delicious. You don’t want to miss this one, even if it’s nowhere near your office.
