5) Nomad’s Restobar

Nomad’s Restobar is another Toronto joint that just expanded into our neck of the woods--and its second location is happily situated in Port Credit. The family-owned establishment, which opened just west of Hurontario on Lakeshore Blvd., also operates a location on the Danforth. According to the resto's website, head chef David (also known as "Chile") has been a Red Seal chef for well over a decade and created a menu dedicated to "Global Inspirations—Local Creations." As far as the menu goes, the resto offers cheese and charcuterie boards, a globally-inspired Wanderlust platter, Kalbi short ribs, a satay platter, ceviche, tacos, sushi, jerk-style wings, chana masala, chimichanga, chicken and waffles, shrimp fried rice and more.

Amantra Food Fusion, an elegant but affordable Indian and Asian/North American fusion restaurant that just opened on Queen St. S., offers an expansive menu filled with fun fusion appetizers, traditional curries, authentic desserts and more. Some choice favourites? The amazing mac n' cheese butter chicken, the cheeseburger egg rolls and Amantra's special chaat.

It looks like Mississauga's once spartan ramen scene is exploding. Recently, Sansotei Ramen opened its doors in Square One—making City Centre a new mecca for ramen. Sansotei, which currently operates locations in Toronto, North York, Markham, Ottawa and Richmond Hill, is known for both the long lineups it tends to generate and its small but satisfying menu. Some soups on the menu include tonkotsu ramen, tonkotsu black ramen, miso black ramen, shoyu ramen, spicy tan tan ramen and tomato ramen. According to Sansotei's website, the resto's ramen broth is freshly made everyday with pork bone. Diners can also choose thick or thin noodles and add extra toppings (think chashu, eggs, mushrooms, green onion and more) for an additional charge.


2) The Port House Social Bar & Kitchen

You know how the old saying goes—when one door closes, another one opens. In this case, the closure of long-standing restobar Ten Restaurant + Wine Bar led to the opening of the brand Port House Social Bar and Kitchen. Recently, the "premium casual" restaurant and lounge opened its doors and is now offering a fairly extensive wine, cocktail and dine-in menu. In terms of beverages, the resto boasts a healthy cocktail list and a decent assortment of on tap beer, including Shock Top and Goose Island IPA. As far as wine goes, the offerings are extensive (as they should be). Vino aficionados can sip on Kim Crawford's New Zealand Pinot Noir, Argentine Malbecs, Italian Pinot Grigios and more. As far as food goes, the resto offers calamari, hot Korean wings, tuna poke wontons, a variety of pizzas, signature burgers, salmon, fish and chips, gnocchi rose, a $139 Tomahawk steak dinner for two and more. The spacious and stylish resto will no doubt fill the void left by Ten.

For the first time ever, a restaurant that celebrates Peruvian food (and more specifically, Peruvian and Japanese fusion cuisine) is open in Mississauga. A few short years ago, a trip to a Peruvian restaurant meant a trip to St. Clair West or Oakville. Now, there's an option in Mississauga—and it's also great for anyone who loves non-traditional Japanese cuisine. As far as food goes, Kage—which has made its home in the 5&10 area—serves sea bass tiradito, beef tataki, ceviche, karaage, Yokozuna’s street roll , blow torched salmon escabeche, anticuchos, hot stone duck fried rice and more.
