Top 5 Hottest Restaurants in Mississauga: May 19-25

Here are the 5 hottest restaurants in Mississauga for the week of May 19 - 25, based on the amount of organic page views and searches these restaurants received on insauga.com.

5) Kanda Sushi

This is one of the best hidden gems in Mississauga for both AYCE and a la carte dishes. Kanda Sushi is located by Trillium, so you will notice that a lot of people from the hospital frequent this joint. The interior suggests the resto might have been a nightclub at one point, with a sunken middle section that's unusual in most restaurants. The food and the presentation of the food is always on point. The sushi is always fresh, the shrimp tempura is always crispy and the sashimi, served on lighted ice, is fantastic. In terms of vegetarian options, they offer a ton of meatless rolls -- more than most AYCE sushi places, to say the least.

4) Amantra Food Fusion

If you’re looking for Indian food that’s tasty, creative, unique and accompanied by a well-crafted fine dining atmosphere (without fine dining prices), you might be happy to hear that a brand new Indian fusion restaurant is calling Mississauga’s quaint Streetsville neighbourhood home. Amantra Food Fusion, an elegant but affordable Indian and Asian/North American fusion restaurant that just opened on Queen St. S., offers an expansive menu filled with fun fusion appetizers, traditional curries, authentic desserts and more. Some choice favourites? The amazing mac n' cheese butter chicken, the cheeseburger egg rolls and Amantra's special chaat.

3) Michael’s Back Door

Before we start talking about the food and the restaurant, we’ve got to say that we love the name and where Michael’s is located. The setup is so unlike anything else in Mississauga, as it is located at the back of a building in Clarkson off Lakeshore Road and is almost a secret because it’s completely hidden from public view. As you park in the back alley, you will find a glass solarium protruding from the back. It’s almost like you are walking into a secret location. We love the risotto pescatore, which has risotto with shrimp, scallops, fresh tomatoes and white wine. This is a perfect place for a date and they even have a piano room that can accommodate 40 people (so it's great for a corporate dinner). They also have a wine room for up to 16, which is great for family parties when you just don’t want to cook at home. Michael’s is expanding so much that it might have a front door one day. Also, Michael’s Back Door has been around since 1981, so you know they’re doing something right.

2) Colossus Greek Taverna

I’ve passed by this place so many times in Port Credit, which is located on the east side of HWY 10 on Lakeshore. It’s a big blue building that you have seen before too. This place is especially nice in the summer, as it has a gorgeous and huge patio overlooking Port Credit. This is a higher-end Greek restaurant that has a real traditional Greek feel to it. I assume it has a traditional high-end Greek feel to it because, according to our server, the owner also owns a five-star restaurant in Greece. The server also said the only difference between a five-star Greek place and this one is that a five-star doesn’t serve pita.

1) The Wilcox

The Wilcox Gastropub is located on the corner of Hurontario and Eglinton and is situated in the Wilcox House - one of Mississauga's oldest Heritage Homes which features Greek and Gothic detailing and was built by Amos and Charles Wilcox in 1850. In a place that serves everything from pork sliders to poutine, Scotch egg, ceviche, cassava frites, braised short ribs, an 18oz bone-in rib eye steak and confit of duck leg I'm going straight to the burger. This is one of their signature dishes here called The Wilcox Burger and it didn't disappoint. The beef is grounded daily and the only one on this list that actually bakes their brioche buns daily. Now that's dedication!
