Although Mississauga has a substantial waterfront (and one that's slated to undergo incredible redevelopment, no less), its waterside food scene has always been dominated by the popular (some might argue iconic) Snug Harbour. That's no longer the case. The owners of the incredibly successful Toronto gem Cafe Diplomatico—located right in the heart of the bustling Little Italy neighbourhood—recently opened a brand new waterside restaurant in Mississauga. Posta, the brand new Italian restaurant, took shape in the old post office location at Stavebank and Lakeshore Road. The chic restaurant boasts 9,300 square feet of space—which includes a vast lakeside patio with its very own bar. As far as dining goes, the resto offers dine-in service, takeout options, express counter service, appetizer bars, and wine bars. As far as food goes, there is salumi and formaggi, pizza, gelato and more.
This is a hidden gem in Mississauga. Their menu is full of amazing options ranging from the famous Colombian platter, the bandeja paisa, to empanadas, patacons, arepas, and so much more. One thing I've learned about South American cuisine is that they know how to make a delectable beef tongue! If you aren't used to it, you may be a tad grossed out by it all, but if you ever muster the courage or are a fan of beef tongue, you have to try it at La Bonita! Cooked to absolute perfection, this meal comes with potatoes, rice, salad, and yucca! These options can be substituted upon request. Finally, their Churrasco. A one inch, AAA sirloin steak that comes out on a sizzling hot plate with chimichurri and all kinds of other flavours! As a side, this dish comes with an entire plate of rice, beans, and sweet plantain; both plates for a very fair $19! La Bonita will make you want to book your next flight to Bogota in a hurry!
Streetsville is home to a popular modern, fine-dining Chinese establishment called Bliss Chinese Cuisine that specializes in Chinese seafood, dim sum and BBQ. The expansive restaurant boasts an open concept design with high ceilings and natural sunlight that brightens the space during the dim sum lunch rush. There is a fireplace near the front windows and a private VIP room that seats 30 people. The restaurant is also designed to accommodate corporate conferences and can seat 60 people in the back portion of the facility. The restaurant has a freshwater tank that is home to the seafood you will find on the menu and a BBQ display case that features all the cuts of meat that are barbequed in house. Some of the signature dishes include king lobster, Vancouver crab, Alaska king crab, live green bass, suckling pig and Peking duck.
2) Border MX
This authentic Mexican place has garnered a lot of attention since it opened because Mississauga doesn't have many Mexican joints like it. The chef is from Mexico, so she knows her stuff and makes truly authentic dishes in her Mexican kitchen. The menu offers traditional Mexican dishes, including fajitas, tamales, flautas and pork carnitas. Friday and Saturday nights are reserved for Chef Rico's regional Mexican specials such as Tongue Tacos (self-explanatory) and Pozole (a soup made of pork or chicken broth with hominy and other garnishes). The somewhat newly-opened Streetsville resto benefits from prime spot in one of the city's best neighbourhoods, friendly service and a reliably delicious menu.
1) Laari Adda
Laari Adda, an Indian and Pakistani street food restaurant, recently took shape in the old Bistro Narra location in the Thomas St. and Winston Churchill area and it's serving up some very fine South Asian cuisine. The restaurant, which is open late, offers dine-in, takeout and catering service. It also offers a bright and colourful interior that draws upon the vibrant decor frequently encountered in India and Pakistan. As far as food goes, restaurant operators say that “Laari Addas in Pakistan are famous for delicious street food and that is exactly what we are bringing back with a modern twist.” One such modern menu item? Nutella parathas. The resto also offers delicious butter chicken, great service and exceptional ambience.
