Located in a plaza at the southwest corner of Mississauga on Royal Windsor and Southdown (yes, that is still Mississauga) is one of the best kept Italian restaurants in the city called Casalinga. This place can't be any bigger than 40 seats and gets packed pretty fast, especially on weekends. They offer house-made gnocchi (small dumplings made from potato, semolina or flour that are usually served with sauce) and house-made gnocchi is usually hard to find, especially in Mississauga. That right there says a lot about the restaurant. We ordered the potato gnocchi that came with lamb, caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic, mushrooms and tomato sauce. The dish was absolutely delicious and the gnocchi melted in our mouths. You won't be hungry after eating something this generously portioned. They also have thin crust pizza cooked in a stone oven. Casalinga has been around for just over three years, and if they keep serving this hearty Italian food, they will be here for generations to come.
Failte is one of the most well-known Irish pubs in Mississauga. It comprises 6,000+ sq. ft. and includes authentic handcrafted furniture and antique pieces to create six different areas within the pub to give every nook a unique feel. Located in the heart of City Centre, it has a lively atmosphere, live music, a wide selection of beers and an incredible lineup of events. This place is known for its huge crowds and is the busiest Irish pub on the weekends. Failte also has Mississauga’s largest heated patio for when it warms up! As for the best Irish Fare? Always go with the the fish and chips.
Szechuan Noodle Bowl specializes in authentic Sichuan cuisine including fresh, handmade noodles made twice daily for both the lunch and dinner crowd. The restaurant is unique for Sichuan cuisine and serving authentic Sichuan snacks featuring "nose-to-tail" dishes and offals. The menu is small but rich in variety and is separated into three sections: Sichuan snacks (marinated duck head, beef lungs in chili sauce, duck gizzard, pork intestines, duck feet, spiced dry radish); Sichuan noodles and soup (handmade and machine made noodle dishes, boiled dumplings, Sichuan hot pot vermicelli; and main dishes (kung pao chicken, bear's paw with bean curd, poached beef in hot chili oil, Sichuan style chicken). This isn't a place to miss anytime, but it really hits the spot during winter.
The Wilcox Gastropub is located on the corner of Hurontario and Eglinton and is situated in the Wilcox House - one of Mississauga's oldest Heritage Homes which features Greek and Gothic detailing and was built by Amos and Charles Wilcox in 1850. In a place that serves everything from pork sliders to poutine, Scotch egg, ceviche, cassava frites, braised short ribs, an 18oz bone-in rib eye steak and confit of duck leg I'm going straight to the burger. This is one of their signature dishes here called The Wilcox Burger and it didn't disappoint. The beef is grounded daily and the only one on this list that actually bakes their brioche buns daily. Now that's dedication!
Meadowvale Town Centre recently welcomed yet another brand new resto--and this one is associated with another casual dining hotspot that’s been happily serving the community for a few years. Social Eatery Winston Churchill is actually the sister resto of the bigger (and Mississauga-based) Union Social Eatery. Although the menu is different from Union Social’s, it specializes in the same casual dining fare consumers have come to expect from the brand. The menu boasts fresh cut bacon salt fries, Thai curry meatballs, spinach artichoke dip, chicken wings (buffalo butter or Gochujang honey), a bacon double cheeseburger, a grilled chicken club salad, Union Social’s famous almond crusted chicken tenders, cashew chicken curry, steak frites and more. So if you're in the mood for some wings after doing a little local shopping, Social Eatery is worth a look.
