5) Jing Thai
Jing Thai is a family-owned business and has been a Streetsville gem since 2004. The word jing in Thai means “true,” making the literal translation of the resto name “True Thai.” The restaurant is a quaint, white-linen tablecloth establishment without the fine dining prices. The street side portion of the restaurant is a small area lined with windows that gets filtered sunlight shining through in the afternoon. I ordered the red curry chicken. The dish comes in a red curry coconut sauce with carrots, broccoli and green beans. The flavour was good and the chicken serving generous. I also tried the pad Thai beef, which I couldn’t stop eating. The flavour was balanced and not overly acidic and it was served with bean sprouts, tofu, green onions and topped with crushed peanuts. Jing Thai is a romantic little spot that serves good Thai food.
You can’t really miss this quaint little restaurant that’s located in the heart of Port Credit. If you are one of the lucky people who actually get a seat, you are in for a treat. This place has a rustic Italian-inspired dining room and is a great spot to enjoy your pizza, which is cooked in a stone oven. Papa Giuseppe’s also serves house-made gnocchi and I can never say no to that. They also serve a selection of antipasti, including insalata caprese, and a wide selection of pastas including Nona’s Pasta Campania or carbonara (marche). If you are lucky enough, try to get a seat directly in front of the kitchen so you can eat and watch the chef and cooking staff do their thing. In the summer months, they have a really nice patio they open up at the back of the restaurant. If you are on a date and you get into this place you look like a Don Juan!
The Maharaja is an incredibly stunning boutique restaurant inspired by the regal beauty of India’s diverse landscape of architecture and flavours. The concept offers a visual and culinary journey through three magnificent palaces of India and a menu featuring cuisine from four different regions in India. The storybook menu is divided into four regional cuisines found in India which have been influenced by various ingredients and flavours of a variety of countries including Greece, West and Central Asia and Persia. There are a number of shareable dishes and entrees highlighting the unique flavours of each region through Awadhi cuisine, classic Hyderabadi cuisine, Punjabi cuisine and Rajputana cuisine. The extensive menu caters to all palates and features distinct regional dishes presented on fine dishes such as copper bowls, slate boards, and copper table top grill.
The Wilcox Gastropub is located on the corner of Hurontario and Eglinton and is situated in the Wilcox House - one of Mississauga's oldest Heritage Homes which features Greek and Gothic detailing and was built by Amos and Charles Wilcox in 1850. In a place that serves everything from pork sliders to poutine, Scotch egg, ceviche, cassava frites, braised short ribs, an18oz bone-in rib eye steak and confit of duck leg I'm going straight to the burger. This is one of their signature dishes here called The Wilcox Burger and it didn't disappoint. The beef is grounded daily and the only one on this list that actually bakes their brioche buns daily. Now that's dedication!
Although Mississauga has a substantial waterfront (and one that's slated to undergo incredible redevelopment, no less), its waterside food scene has always been dominated by the popular (some might argue iconic) Snug Harbour. The owners of the incredibly successful Toronto gem Cafe Diplomatico—located right in the heart of the bustling Little Italy neighbourhood—just opened a brand new waterside restaurant in Mississauga. Posta, the brand new Italian restaurant, took shape in the old post office location at Stavebank and Lakeshore Road. The chic restaurant boasts 9,300 square feet of space—which includes a vast lakeside patio with its very own bar. As far as dining goes, the resto offers dine-in service, takeout options, express counter service, appetizer bars and wine bars. As far as food goes, there is salumi and formaggi, pizza, gelato and more. Even better news? The restaurant will serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.
