5) Congee Queen

After months of waiting, a highly-anticipated (and massive) Asian restaurant recently opened its doors in Mississauga. The spacious, chic and tasty Congee Queen in Heartland Town Centre is a welcome addition to Mississauga's thriving Asian food scene, and it hit the ground running with its elegant interior and extensive menu. The brand, which also operates locations in Thornhill, North York, Markham, Scarborough and a few other GTA neighbourhoods, is located right beside the newly opened Seafood City Supermarket on Boyer Blvd. As far as food goes, the resto offers lobster super bowl congee, pumpkin hot pot congee with rock crab meat and vegetarian shark fins (which is perfect for shark fin fans who don’t feel comfortable eating the controversial and, in some cases, profoundly unethical delicacy), sliced fish and blood jello congee, pork internal delicacy congee and more. As for what dishes are most worth trying, the house super bowl congee is a must.

4) Capra's Kitchen

Look out Mississauga! Chef Massimo Capra and his signature 'stache and big personality are in our city. Chef Massimo recently opened a restaurant called Capra's Kitchen in his hometown of Mississauga in the former Villa La Bella space along Lakeshore Rd. in the Clarkson neighbourhood. Over the past few years, it’s become a fan favourite. Chef Massimo is an accomplished celebrity chef, TV personality, author and Saugaboy who has an extensive resume. His career began when he first started toiling in kitchens in Italy. He made his way to Toronto in the early 80s and worked in a few notable fine dining establishments in the city. His brand new restaurant offers lunch, dinner and weekend brunch and his menu is full of delicious, classic Italian fare that’s sure to leave every diner satisfied.

3) Kinton Ramen

Although Mississauga is home to a plethora of hot and popular restaurants, we're of the opinion that there's always room for one more--especially when that "one more" is one we've been hoping for. Back in 2014, insauga.com reached out to popular ramen resto Kinton Ramen to ask if it would ever consider setting up shop in Mississauga. The restaurant operators were pleasantly enthused about the idea and said they'd been considering the Square One area. Now, several years later, Kinton Ramen's ambitions have been realized. The growing brand, known for its authentic pork and chicken soup, recently opened on the ground floor of the Parkside Village condos. The resto, boasting a modern interior and an exciting menu, is a welcome addition to the Square One area food scene.

2) MyKolachi--Karahi & Barbeque House

MyKolachi Karahi & Barbeque House, an upscale Pakistani restaurant, opened its doors in November 2018 and is already impressing customers with its unique interior (think dramatic purple hues with pops of vibrant accent colours, traditional cookware suspended from the ceiling, eye-catching murals, esoteric pop-culture shout-outs and prayer rooms) and impressive menu. One thing you need to order at MyKolachi? The karahi. The karahi features bone-in or boneless chicken cooked with garlic, tomatoes and MyKolachi's house blend of karahi spices. The dish, made fresher with a generous helping of sliced ginger, is both fragrant and flavourful—and it's not the only meat dish to write home about. MyKolachi also offers some pretty unforgettable kababs that you won't really want to share with your tablemates (but you should).

1) La Bonita

This is a hidden gem in Mississauga. Their menu is full of amazing options ranging from the famous Colombian platter, the bandeja paisa, to empanadas, patacons, arepas, and so much more. One thing I've learned about South American cuisine is that they know how to make a delectable beef tongue! If you aren't used to it, you may be a tad grossed out by it all, but if you ever muster the courage or are a fan of beef tongue, you have to try it at La Bonita! Cooked to absolute perfection, this meal comes with potatoes, rice, salad, and yucca! These options can be substituted upon request. Finally, their Churrasco. A one inch, AAA sirloin steak that comes out on a sizzling hot plate with chimichurri and all kinds of other flavours! As a side, this dish comes with an entire plate of rice, beans, and sweet plantain; both plates for a very fair $19! La Bonita will make you want to book your next flight to Bogota in a hurry!
