I never understood the idea of going to the movies on a first date. Sitting in silence for two hours doesn’t exactly help you get to know the other person. The idea was probably manufactured by the movie industry at some point. Hopefully the following ideas can generate some fun and conversation so you can get to know each other better on your first date!

Here are the top 5 first date ideas in Mississauga:

5 – Korean BBQ

I figure it’s a great place for a first date because you actually get to work together on the BBQ or see someone take control of it. Either way, you get to know each other on another level (you can decide whether their grilling skills are love-inducing, basically) and you both smell like Korean BBQ for the rest of the night.

4 – Board Game Night Studio 89

Every Friday, Studio 89 has a board game night put on by Solid Board Gamers. Everyone is welcome and there are tons of games to choose from. Get to know your date through how he or she plays board games. Trust me, you can learn a lot about a person from how they handle winning or losing. Studio 89 is considered a community hub. You might think of it as a café, but it’s a cafe with a mission and purpose. This is a non-profit organization and the money you spend at Studio 89 goes towards the functioning of that community hub. If you purchase something, they simply say thanks for the donation.

3 – Celebration Square

It’s a little bit chilly now, but this might be the best date spot that’s totally free. In the winter, you can go skating on the ice rink and have some hot chocolate at the C-Cafe or walk over to one of the bars around City Centre afterwards. In the summer, this place has it all. There are events going on throughout the summer, but one that sticks out is the Thursday night movie at the square. Bring your own chairs and blankets and sit underneath the stars and watch a movie on the two big screens.

2 – Scooters

If you go to Scooters, located on Royal Windsor Drive, on a first date you are almost guaranteed to hold hands. If you’re looking for a fun way to get active together, this is for you.  Strap on a pair of roller skates and dance with your beau in their retro throwback arena.  From the vintage track lighting to the disco balls, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into 1975, which is when this iconic landmark originally opened their doors.  Worried about falling on your face?  On Tuesdays and Thursdays you can take lessons, followed by a skate (although falling down is half the fun.)  You can attend adult-only skates if you’re looking to avoid the little ones on your date and night owls can even attend a late-night skate once a month that runs until 3am.  The arena isn’t licensed to serve liquor, so that alone offers you a built-in excuse to ask for date number two.

1 – Skyzone

One of the best things about being a kid had to be jumping on my friend’s trampoline every day in the summer.  Now, being an adult in a big city with no backyard, that simple pleasure isn’t as attainable as it used to be.  Enter Sky Zone.  Imagine a room full of trampolines — with walls made of trampolines — enabling you to literally bounce off the walls.  Sound like a blast?  Sky Zone also offers 3D dodge ball and a SkyRobic fitness class.  If you feel like being a big kid on your next date, this is the place to go.  Be sure to buy your tickets in advance, though!  Sky Zone is as popular as it is exciting.
