In Mississauga, no matter where you eat, you will almost always find fish tacos on the menu and some are certainly better than others. Whether it is cod, tilapia, haddock or even catfish served in a nice soft tortilla, these delicious tacos will deliver a succulent punch that most box restaurant tacos just can’t match.

Here are the top 5 fish tacos in Mississauga:

5 – Cagney’s

In 2014, Cagney’s took on five months and about $1.2 million worth of renos. Cagney’s menu focuses on local and seasonal ingredients and includes a substantial appetizer selection that boasts fish tacos. The fish tacos are made with blackened Cajun Oceanwise cod, pico salsa, tartar, cilantro, shredded lettuce, flour tortillas and a little extra kick. Bonus: The chef and his team make everything, including bread, desserts, fresh cut fries, sauces and stocks in house.

4 – The Wilcox

The Wilcox Gastropub is located at the corner of Hurontario and Eglinton and is situated in the Wilcox House – one of Mississauga’s oldest  Heritage Homes that features Greek and Gothic detailing and was built by Amos and Charles Wilcox in 1850.  The fish taco is delicious and made with basa filet, pico de gallo, tomatillo sauce, roasted poblano crema, lime and fresh guacamole. The space is well lit with a skylight and a lot of windows and boasts dark tufted benches that line the lounge area with natural wood accents. Modern decorative pieces are scattered throughout the restaurant, creating atmosphere and ambiance.

3- Laari Adda

Laari Adda, an Indian and Pakistani street food restaurant that always hopping every night of the week due to its fun menu and affordable dishes. It also offers a bright and colourful interior that draws upon the vibrant decor frequently encountered in India and Pakistan. They switch up the menu every few months depending out what sells well and a new item they have added that is selling well are the fish tacos. They come in mild, medium and hot and if you are daring, get the HOT! With the fish popping out of the soft taco shell you won’t be complaining about the size–and the amount of flavour will make you want a second order.

2 – El Mariachi Tacos and Churros

The newest addition to Mississauga’s growing Mexican scene has officially opened its doors. El Mariachi Tacos and Churros has set up shop in Streetsville and is now serving authentic tacos filled with all manner of delicious ingredients, including chorizo, carnitas, tinga, pozole and more.

1 – Border MX

Yes, Dos XX beer battered fish! Border MX Mexican Grill & Cantina, located in the 5 and 10 area, offers the full Mexican experience from the taste of the food to the service. Their warm and inviting approach to service and their flavour-rich dishes made it easy to add this restaurant to my list of regular go-to spots for some fun and messy eats. Baja fish tacos, which include large pieces of Dos XX beer-battered fish, chipotle mayo and citrus cilantro slaw, are the best in Mississauga!
