There’s something about dining at an elegant restaurant and indulging in enjoyable, aromatic dishes while snowflakes fall from the cotton candy skies. Delicious curries are one way to “spice” things up on a date night or even a cozy night in. Did we mention that it’s a reasonably priced option and you’re getting a lot of flavour and exotic tastes for under $20? Mississauga has an endless array of unique and delicious Pakistani/West Indian restaurants that are calling your name. So, if you’re craving a different type of comfort food this winter but just don’t know where to start, look no further. We’ve rounded up our top 5 favourite curry spots in Mississauga just for you!

5) Karahi Boys

Before we talk about their signature curry dish, let’s talk about the decor. The interior is modern and elegant with rustic brick walls and colourful panels. Now, their signature chicken karahi tastes authentic and homemade. This is the perfect spot for a date night or to bring your family. The service is great, and they strive to make your experience with them homey and one to remember. We highly recommend the boneless chicken karahi perfect for sharing between two people. The portions are more than enough and if you’re trying to be on the healthier side, ask for it made with less oil.

4) BBQ Tonite

BBQ Tonite is a well-known Pakistani restaurant that never fails to deliver the freshest and tastiest dishes made fresh to order. We had the pleasure of trying their chicken tikka masala which is a boneless chicken curry cooked with fresh green peppers, onions, roasted cumin, garlic, ginger covered in a tomato-based sauce. It can be on the spicier side, but you have the option to have it made mild. Paired with either plain or butter naan, you will have an experience unlike any other. Trust us, it’s worth it. The venue is always packed, and their dishes are the reason why people keep on coming back for more. The servers are friendly and attentive to all your needs. Service with a smile!

3) Leela’s Roti & Doubles

This cute, family-owned establishment will have you coming back for more the moment you step inside. The venue itself has such a warm and homey vibe with its upbeat music and inviting aromas. Not to mention the family strives to make it an experience to remember. Their boneless chicken curry will have you forget that you’re in Mississauga with one taste. Marinated in tropical seasonings and cooked to perfection….suddenly, you’re transported to the Caribbean. Prepared fresh and just for you, the chicken curry is made with a recipe that has been passed down from generations and ingredients that are hand sourced. It’s perfectly flavoured and on the milder side, but you can ask for hot sauce on the side which is sure to spice things up. We also tried their vegetarian chickpea curry which paired perfectly with the chicken.

2) Aunty’s Kitchen

Aunty’s Kitchen serves up the perfect home-cooked curry that your own aunt could make, in a beautiful restaurant! Did you know nihari is the national dish of Pakistan? Well, Aunty’s Kitchen has declared it, so we had to give it a try! Nihari is beef shank cooked overnight into a thick and spicy stew/curry. It’s slow-cooked to perfection and is seriously bursting with flavour that will have you craving it for days after. The best way to have this is topped with green chilli peppers, ginger and a squeeze of lemon on top. Indulge with soft, fresh naan and your taste buds will thank you later.

1) Badshah Grill

Located in Dixie Square, Badshah Grill serves up an appetizing and delicious chicken karahi. This dish in infused with exotic flavours and will have you savour every single bite. Their curry comes with a very thick curry sauce and it’s cooked in a karahi with tomatoes, onions, ginger, garlic, spices and garnished with fresh cilantro. It can be a bit spicy, but you have the option to request a medium or mild spice level. I tried the boneless chicken pieces, but there is an option to try with bone. The overall atmosphere of the establishment is elegant, quaint and the perfect place for a special date night or even a huge party as they have a banquet hall that can accommodate up to 60 guests.
