There is nothing better than a charcuterie board to start the evening off in Mississauga. You get a variety of cured meats, cheeses and breads and the ingredients—though simple—are flavourful, comforting and unique. Also, the best boards come with local or even house-made cured meats and homemade bread. The boards typically change to showcase what meats and cheese are in season, so the dish is never boring.

Here are the top 5 charcuterie boards in Mississauga:

5) Mondello Ristorante

If you are planning a special occasion for a small get together, Mondello’s is a frontrunner in providing excellent service for its guests. It is a fine-dining Italian-inspired restaurant located in Streetsville. The owner of the establishment is Nicola Iatomasi, who is the executive chef. The menu offers a wide selection of creative Italian dishes that are authentic and freshly made to order. Mondello offers gluten-free pastas and vegetarian options, and some of the most popular dishes on the menu are the butternut squash gnocchi, mushroom risotto, and the zuppa di mare for those who love a good seafood dish. As for the charcuterie board  for two ($36.00), it offers duck confit, cacciatore sausage, grilled fig, prosciutto, sweety drop pepper, pancetta, olives, assorted cheese, and focaccia bread.

4) Spice Lounge

Spice Lounge, located in the heart of Port Credit at Lakeshore and Stavebank, has some truly memorable gems. It has an extensive bar and food menu and serves up some refreshing, if not super sweet, sangria. Spice Lounge tends to get packed in the evenings, but the servers never fail to remain attentive. When it comes to after-hours fun, atmosphere is almost (just almost) everything. Spice Lounge succeeds in spades, making the most of its modest space with elegant stone, red accents, sexy mood lighting and a chic backlit bar. The high tables and dim lights scream, “date night” and they have live (but non-intrusive) music. It’s perfect for late night drinks and apps for both friends and couples. On the board? Chorizo Sausage and Serrano ham with mixed artisan cheeses and preserves.

3) Papa Giuseppe’s

Papa Giuseppe’s is an Italian-style restaurant located in Port Credit at Lakeshore and Stavebank. With an outdoor patio, the old-Italian inspired décor makes you feel like you’re sitting in Italy, eating at one of the local restaurants. It is a very cozy-family oriented smaller restaurant that serves as a casual dining spot to go to after-work. Giuseppe’s serves authentic Italian dishes from fresh pizza and veal parmigiana to 13 different types of pastas to choose from. As a top favourite in the community, this gem is not one to miss! Make your reservations because this restaurant fills up quickly. As for what’s on the Antipasto a la Casalinga ($23.49), it comes with assorted cured meats (prosciutto, capicola, salami, soppressata), imported Italian cheese, seasoned Italian olives, and giardiniera.

2) Cagney’s

Cagney’s has been operating as a family business since 1974 and located in the heart of Streetsville. It was recently renovated three years ago to a more modern, upscale restaurant with a stylish bar and dining area. They offer delicious seafood dishes, perfectly-cooked steak and even have combination platters of steak and seafood. On the board ($40.00), you’ll find a selection of cheeses and cured meats with house-made slices of bread and spreads.

1) Goodfellas

Once you walk in, you can tell this place did not spare a dime. It looks like you are walking into a rustic Italian home to have some authentic Italian grub. Goodfellas in Streetsville is Mississauga’s very first restaurant offering authentic Neapolitan wood oven pizza. The menu offers authentic Romano pizza and homemade pastas which are all freshly made in-house. The menu also includes appetizers, salads, fish and meat entrees and desserts. The mozzarealla di bufala and parmigiano-reggiano cheeses are some of the ingredients they use that are directly imported from Italy. Goodfellas boasts an extensive Italian wine selection which was specifically chosen to pair beautifully with the dishes on the menu. This place has a small patio that overlooks the new Streetsville Square, so if you are lucky enough, you can catch a free show from your seat. On the boardSmoked ham, prosciutto cotto, spicy calabrese soppressata, prosciutto crudo, spicy pork butter, olives and grilled croissants
