Burgers have stood the test of time. A succulent patty hugged by two buns, and any condiment you desire, is known to cap off an epic night out or to celebrate cheat days with happiness and grunts of satisfaction (no one’s judging, we can relate all too well). So instead of going to a quick and cheap fast food stop, here are some places that will make a mean hamburger with the love and respect a burger deserves.
If you’re looking for a local watering hole to catch a game, have a beer and scarf down a burger this could be the spot for you. This cozy pub also has a roomy seating area along book shelves on one side of the bar and dart boards lining the other side. As for the the burger, it’s totally above par. You have six burgers to choose from and from what I saw you can’t really go wrong from any of them. I’m of the belief that a fried egg makes any meal better so I chose the Breakfast Burger with the egg, bacon and cheese. I only added a little ketchup and mayo because I like saucy burgers, but the meal was extremely satisfying. The portion was huge, the fries were lovely and substantial, and on Tuesdays burgers are half price.
For $7.95 and change, you can get the Wally Burger to satisfy a typical burger craving. What they don’t tell you is that it also includes a trip to burger heaven. I didn’t add any condiments because I didn’t want to mask the flavour of the patty. It ticked all the boxes: juicy, tender, seasoned and cooked fresh. And the size of the burger! Ouf, it was bigger than the palm of my hand. A waitress warned me that it’s a big burger, boy she was right. It was enough for me without feeling over full. You can add fries for $1.99 if your heart desires. Find Wally’s on Steeles (eastbound) and Dixie.
Located in a historic building on Main St. in downtown Brampton, Carve is an awesome spot to hit for any meal, whether you’re looking for a cozy dinner or drinks and apps on the patio in the summertime. For a pricier $20 than your regular grab-and-go burger, you can get Carve’s special 8oz beef patty with bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheddar cheese, spicy ketchup and guacamole mayo on a Kaiser bun. The beef patty is extra special because it’s fresh meat – and you can taste that freshness. The big burger is served with Carve’s incredible parmesean fries, which are a treat as well. Yum!
No Brampton burger list is complete without this joint because it’s a legend in its own right. A relic from a bygone era, Sonny’s is all about nostalgia and feel-good food. Located on Kennedy Road, it looks like an absolute dive and that’s probably what’s most charming about it. In terms of food, Sonny’s offers burgers, cheeseburgers, double bacon cheeseburgers, steak on a kaiser, fish and chips, chicken fingers, fries and more. As far as food goes, it’s all very straight up and traditional–but sometimes, that’s what your body wants. Who ever said a traditional cheeseburger doesn’t hit the spot?
1) J Red & Co.
This place is special because it pairs great food with distinct ambiance. It’s probably one of the most modern restaurants in Brampton, from the atmosphere to the innovative menu. Located on Vodden and Main, it’s one of the gems in the city. Chef Jason Rosso is the mastermind behind the menu and if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve seen him on Restaurant Makeover, Recipe to Riches and the Marilyn Dennis Show. He is known for offering familiar food with a twist and the menu does not disappoint. If you’re in the mood for a good burger, try the Bob and Doug burger. You won’t be disappointed.
