Every year, Mississauga welcomes hot new restaurants to its ever-growing food scene and there were some highly-anticipated new openings in 2018.

From highly-anticipated fast food joints to sophisticated, on-trend restos to beloved casual dining chains, Mississauga welcomed a slew of new restos this year.

Here’s a look at the most popular new openings of 2018, based on the amount of organic page views the opening stories generated on insauga.com.

5) Gladiator Burger and Steak

If you’ve got a craving for a burger in Mississauga, your options have recently increased by one. A new Gladiator Burger & Steak location opened it doors on Wednesday, August 15, the restaurant announced on its Facebook page. The burger joint is located at 6039 Erin Mills Parkway. What can you expect from eating here? “Fresh 6 oz prime beef, grounded daily in house, and delicious hand cut fries” are just two of the menu items the restaurant promises to deliver. As you might be able to guess from the name, the restaurant sports a gladiatorial theme and interior. Are you not entertained?!

4) Turtle Jacks at Erin Mills Town Centre

After Erin Mills Town Centre launched its multi-million dollar renovation, its casual sit-down restaurant scene—made up of the aforementioned Pickle Barrel and Spring Rolls—all but faded away. That was until Turtle Jacks, a homegrown casual brand that’s upgraded its folksy, cottagey concept and embraced a sleeker and more modern look, opened its doors in the summer. As far as food goes, the restaurant is known for some All-American (Canadian?) staples as burgers, sandwiches, wings, wraps, salads, steaks and more.

3) Nomad’s Restobar

Nomad’s Restobar is another Toronto joint that just expanded into our neck of the woods–and its second location is happily situated in Port Credit. The family-owned establishment, which opened just west of Hurontario on Lakeshore Blvd., also operates a location on the Danforth. According to the resto’s website, head chef David (also known as “Chile”) has been a Red Seal chef for well over a decade and created a menu dedicated to “Global Inspirations—Local Creations.” As far as the menu goes, the resto offers cheese and charcuterie boards, a globally-inspired Wanderlust platter, Kalbi short ribs, a satay platter, ceviche, tacos, sushi, jerk-style wings, chana masala, chimichanga, chicken and waffles, shrimp fried rice and more.

2) Tomo Sushi

This gem, which also operates a location in Richmond Hill, recently took over the space once occupied by Sushi Tei. While many residents were sad to see Sushi Tei go, they should be happy that a Japanese place this good took its spot. This place, which offers a small, complimentary noodle dish at the start of your meal, has some of the best and freshest sushi and sashimi in Mississauga. It also offers omakase, which means customers can allow the chef to customize a meal for them. This isn’t a sushi place you want to miss.

1) Jollibee

After years of waiting, Jollibee finally opened its doors on Friday, July 20 at 7:00 a.m. Jollibee restaurant, a popular fast food brand from The Philippines, took shape inside the recently opened Seafood City Supermarket in Heartland Town Centre. The resto, which is known for generating huge lineups, offers a range of Asian and North American staples, boasting traditional fast-food hamburgers, spaghetti (which is definitely an unusual find at quick-service chains), fried chicken, garlic pepper beef, spring rolls, corned beef breakfast dishes and more.
