Top 5 Bars to Watch Sports in Mississauga
It's Saturday night and you favourite sports team is about to play or you want to watch a good fight. There is nothing better than getting together with your boys, swig a cold beer, eat some wings at a bar and check out the game or fight while cheering along with a bunch of strangers. So without further adieu, here are my top five spots in Mississauga to watch sports:
5 - Coopers Pub
The classic wood-finished tavern, Coopers Pub. The pub offers a cozy environment to watch the game with your friends and a projection screen for a big picture. Good prices and food along with interesting selections of brews on tap, including Strongbow, Rickards (Red & White) and Hoegaarden. Coopers Pub is comfortable and located right near Burnhamthorpe and Wolfdale. Don't forget that during Leaf’s, Raptors and NFL games there are always great specials going on that include the obvious beer and wings combo's.
4 - Wingporium
Port Credit’s Wingporium might be one of the best chicken wings joints I’ve experienced. This is Wing Emporium’s second location, with the first being in Etobicoke. This joint isn’t too big and boasts TVs mounted everywhere and a patio that looks like it would double capacity if it was open. The wings were breaded and cooked to perfection and the sauces were all made in house. The flavours are sectioned off into dry, mild, medium, hot and suicide, so I had one from each section. Crazier diners can try the Scorpion Kiss and Black Mamba (which the restaurant actually advises pregnant women to avoid). I had the Dry Roasted Rub, Big Boy Cool Toys, Interview with a Vampire, Bubba’s Backfire and Chipotle. The winner is Interview with a Vampire! It must be fun naming these flavours!
3 - Fred's Bar and Grill
This is one of the best kept secrets in Mississauga. You can find this bar/restaurant hidden in a small plaza in Central Mississauga. Recently Fred’s Bar & Grill has taken over the China, well China City, which was next door and added a brand new section. The reno, which was a huge undertaking that required the gutting of the entire space, has made the resto much more open and inviting to eat your chicken wings! The new digs offer 26 TVs and two 80” babies on the wall, so there is not a bad vantage point anywhere in the restaurant. They even have a Toronto Maple Leafs wall that covers the entire west side of the restaurant. It serves up great food and has great service. This little place is great for chillin’, hanging out, watching sports and maybe even taking a date to. The food here is great at very reasonable prices.
Located in City Centre this place is pretty cool for the sports enthusiast, as they have TV's right inside the booths that diners can operate themselves. So for multi-sport nights you are not fighting to watch UFC when hockey is on and vice versa. This place also is known for having 200 flavours for the wings to choose from, most of which are made in house.
1 - Wacky Wings
This spot is located in east Cooksville and gets a crowd that I love. From 20-something Ukrainian kids to 50-year-old Vietnamese dads, this spot has it all. You'll find high definition sports in every direction to never miss a moment of playoff action. During intermissions, you can even play pool as they have a section filled with billiard tables and other fun games. It's kind of like Chuck E Cheese for adults without the screaming kids. In addition to over 100 wing flavours to choose from, they also offer burgers, wraps, salads, ribs and even pizza. Wacky Wings serves Canadian, Coors, Bud, Mill St, SteamWhistle, MGD, Stella, and Rickards all on tap with some nifty dispensing pitchers! Oh, and did I mention the mountainous Nacho Grande that will bust your gut quicker than a liver kick from Bas Rutten? DELICIOUS!
