There are many French restaurants in Toronto, but a new one is opening with a quizzical twist: the restaurant does not have a menu. It also only seats 20.
“You went on our website, looked for a menu and did not find anything,” reads a post on social media from new restaurant The French Kitchen.
“We did it on purpose! Every table arrives not knowing exactly what’s coming. That’s the point. You’ll leave knowing exactly what you love. Expect a unique evolving multi-course experience curated by Chef Didier Leroy with a few signature dishes.”
While the menu may be a surprise, diners can rest assured that the chef is at ease at the helm of the kitchen.
“After many years dedicated to French culinary craft, The French Kitchen feels especially meaningful. It is an opportunity to bring together everything I value most: tradition, discipline, generosity, and the simple joy of sharing a meal,” reads a statement from Chef Didier Leroy on the restaurant’s official website.
“A restaurant should be a place where people can slow down, reconnect, and restore themselves. Where hospitality is felt in every detail, and where every person; guest and team member alike is welcomed with the same attention and respect. I continue to learn every day.”
While the menu may be secretive, the restaurant did share one dish that guests can most likely expect to enjoy on social media.
“Le gâteau de sandre is Didier in a single bite. Pike-perch, a freshwater fish beloved across the French countryside, transformed through patience and precision into something almost impossibly delicate,” reads a social media post from The French Kitchen.
“The menu rotates with the seasons, and Didier’s whims but remains firmly rooted in classic French cooking. This dish is one of the constants. A signature. A statement. We don’t share the menu before your visit. But some things are worth a glimpse.”
The restaurant is founded on principles of respect and classic technique.
“Every dish begins with respect: for the ingredient, for the hands that cultivate it, for the craft that transforms it, and for the people gathered around the table,” reads the official website for The French Kitchen.
“Rooted in decades of dedication to the hospitality and culinary crafts, the team at THE FRENCH KITCHEN is guided by the values we hold closest, care, generosity, craftsmanship, and the simple pleasure of bringing people together.”
The French Kitchen is now open at 3054 Dundas St. W.
