Thursday night at the movies is back at Mississauga Celebration Square, starting with tomorrow night’s (May 26) screening of Sing 2.

After a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the wildly popular Celebration Square Movie Nights are once again on the calendar for 2022.

Here’s a list of confirmed movie showings planned for Celebration Square in the coming weeks:

  • May 26: Sing 2
  • June 2: Ghostbusters: Afterlife
  • June 9: Jumanji: The Next Level
  • June 16: Clifford the Big Red Dog
  • June 23: Shrek 2
  • June 30: No movie planned

City of Mississauga officials say movie listings for July to September will be announced as they become available.

Prior to the pandemic, Mississauga residents would turn out in full force for the free Thursday night outdoor flicks in the square, which run through the end of August.

Thousands of people would set up their lawn chairs, lay out their blankets and bring out the snacks to watch a movie under the stars.

In addition to the movie nights, several hugely popular festivals are returning to Celebration Square this spring and summer as well.

So, too, are Canada Day celebrations on July 1, which may include fireworks, according to Mayor Bonnie Crombie.

Festivals making their return to Celebration Square this year include Mississauga Polish Day (May 28), TD Mosaic Festival (July 22-23), Mississauga Italfest (Aug. 12-13) and Japan Festival Canada (Aug. 20-21).
