Thunderstorm risk with up to 25 mm of rain for southern Ontario

There’s a risk of thunderstorms in parts of Ontario over the next couple of days.

Hot temperatures will also be a theme throughout the week.

Environment Canada has issued weather outlooks for the next few days.

On Monday afternoon and evening, portions of northwestern and far northwestern Ontario, particularly near the Manitoba border (location A on the map below), could see thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Up to 30 mm of rain is possible locally.

Other areas shaded in grey could see isolated thunderstorms with up to 20 mm of rain locally.

Meanwhile on Monday, northern parts of Ontario are seeing very warm temperatures. A heat warning has been issued for some locations.

On Tuesday, there’s a risk of thunderstorms in parts of northern and southern Ontario (areas shaded in grey below).

That includes Toronto, western portions of the Greater Toronto Area, Hamilton, Niagara Region, London, and Windsor, among other locations.

Forecasters said isolated thunderstorms are possible.

They could drop up to 25 mm of rain locally, with a local peak hourly amount of up to 20 mm.

Portions of northwestern Ontario, including Kenora, could see more severe storms.

“Thunderstorms are likely to move into Ontario Tuesday evening, with the potential to produce wind gusts up to 110 km/h and hail up to 4 cm in diameter,” Environment Canada said for those areas.

Local rainfall amounts of 25 to 35 mm are possible there.

Also on Tuesday, heat will continue in northern Ontario.

For Wednesday and Thursday, Environment Canada said predictability was too low to create thunderstorm outlooks.

However, forecasters are again predicting hot temperatures in parts of the province.
