Three teens charged after a truck reported stolen from a Whitby scrap metal yard

Three teens face theft charges after a pick-up truck went missing from a scrap metal yard in Whitby Monday evening.

Durham Regional Police say the truck was reported stolen on Monday (July 11) at approximately 6:50 p.m.

A man called 9-1-1 to report three male teens stealing one of their company’s vehicles on Taunton Road east of Garrard Road, police said.

The man confronted the teens and he was assaulted suffering minor injuries. The teens then fled.

Two teens were arrested near the scene and a third fled on foot. The K-9 Unit assisted but the suspect was able to get away. But the third teen was later arrested and charged.

An 18-year-old man and two 15-year-old boys were charged with theft of a motor vehicle and assault.
