Yet another Durham Region pharmacy was robbed yesterday afternoon and police are on the lookout for the men responsible.

Three men entered the IDA Bay Ridges Pharmacy on Pickering’s Liverpool Road on March 7 around 4:20 p.m. They went behind the counter, demanded narcotics and assaulted an employee, causing minor wounds to the emloyee’s face.

The trio managed to steal an unspecified quantity of drugs before fleeing the store.

Police describe the assailants as three men wearing dark clothes.

Pharmacies in Durham have been frequent targets of such robberies in the last few months. An Oshawa pharmacy robbery on March 3, evolved into an aerial pursuit from police helicopter Air1 and the arrest of three teenagers in Markham.

Three pharmacies were hit in Oshawa, Whitby, then Ajax on February 17, again by three men who made off with narcotics. An employee was assaulted in the robbery in Ajax, but no one was harmed in the Oshawa and Whitby incidents.

Three weeks prior on January 25 and 26, three men robbed pharmacies in Pickering and Ajax, as well as a cell phone store in the latter town. Police announced at the time they were trying to establish if the January 25 and 26 robberies were connected.

Anyone with information relating to the March 7 incident can call the DRPS Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
