Three schools in north Durham remain closed today as power is still not restored to all customers.

The following schools will continue to remain closed on Wednesday:

  • Southwood Park PS (Ajax)
  • Valley View PS (Pickering)
  • Uxbridge PS (Uxbridge)

“The decision to keep these schools closed has been made to protect the health and safety of students, parents/guardians and staff due to the impact of the storm,” the Durham District School Board said in a letter to parents and teachers. “Many students may also be without power and therefore, not able to access virtual learning. For this reason, there will be NO remote learning taking place on Wednesday.”

The following schools that were closed on Tuesday will be reopening today as power has been fully restored and the schools are safe for staff and students.

  • Lincoln Avenue PS (Ajax)
  • Goodwood PS, Joseph Gould PS and Uxbridge SS (Uxbridge)
  • A. Fairman PS (Whitby)

The board also thanked “all those working tirelessly around the clock to restore power” as well as those who have assisted neighbours during this “challenging time.”
