$500,000 lottery winner from Mississauga.

Jaspreet Kaur picked the perfect time to quench her thirst with a recent trip to the store.

While buying herself a drink, the Mississauga woman decided to pick up an Instant High Roller Casino lotto scratch ticket as well — and it turned out to be a $500,000 winner.

Kaur, who works in retail and likes to try different lotto games, said she’s been a regular lottery player for about 10 years.

It took her a while to determine the ticket she held was a big winner.

“I forgot about the ticket for a few weeks before I played it,” Kaur shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her windfall. “When I saw I matched three penguins on the game, I realized I won $500,000 and I was shocked.

“I didn’t really believe it was real, so I set the ticket aside for a few days while I processed my emotions,” she continued. “I showed the ticket to my husband, who also had a moment of disbelief.”

Now that the couple believe their good fortune, Kaur said she plans to pay bills and put some of her winnings aside for her children’s education.

“It’s a wonderful feeling. I’m speechless,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K, on Balmoral Drive in Brampton.
