Three new COVID-19 cases today in Niagara Region

For the second day in a row, Niagara Region announced just three new COVID-19 cases today (July 9).

That remains remarkably close to the two new cases announced on July 6 – the lowest single-day number the Region has seen since the pandemic began in March 2020.

That leaves the active number of cases in the region at 89 with 11 more cases resolved today.

April 15 remains the high-mark for cases during 2021 in Niagara when 215 were reported in that one day.

The type of COVID-19 variant being most listed at 50 per cent is “likely Delta,” That particular strain is cause for concern with Niagara Region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mustafa Hirjji and the medical community-at-large.

The two most populated communities within Niagara – St Catharines and Niagara Falls – are understandably also seeing the most cases, the former with 31, the latter with 14.

While just 0.03 percent of the region’s total 16,269 cases (since the pandemic began) have been admitted to the ICU, some 3.7 per cent have needed some hospital care.
