The theft of a pickup truck in Burlington that led to a police pursuit and a crash has resulted in the arrest of three men.

Events unfolded just after 7 a.m. yesterday (March 13) when a Ford Explorer was stolen from a home in the Burloak Drive and Sutton Drive area.

Police spotted the truck and another vehicle that was involved and gave chase before giving up due to safety concerns, they said.

A short time later the fleeing trucks were involved in a collision at the intersection of Guelph Line and Upper Middle Road.

Following the crash, police say two suspects then used a knife and punched a motorist to steal his vehicle and make a getaway. The victim suffered minor injuries.

When police arrived at the crash scene three men were arrested, all from Hamilton.

Charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order are Scott Guitar, 34, and Willam Hannah, 36.

Shane Martin, 48, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime.

All three accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police are continuing to search for two suspects and the stolen vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Jetta.
