Threat against a doctor probed as ‘hate-motivated’ crime in Mississauga

A physician who works in Mississauga was threatened, an incident that Peel police are investigating as “hate-motivated.”

Peel Regional Police said investigators from the 11 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau are investigating the threat.

The physician who was targeted is affiliated with Trillium Health Partners, it said in a press release tonight (Oct. 26). Trillium Health Partners is a hospital with three main sites, including Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital and Queensway Health Centre.

Police didn’t provide details about the threat and the circumstances of the incident.

But Trillium told news outlets that the threat was sent to a doctor who identifies as Jewish, The employee received the threat outside of the hospital but Trillium has stepped up its security presence.

“We have zero tolerance for hate, threats or violence against anyone in our community, and all reported incidents will be investigated to the fullest extent,” said chief of police Nishan Duraiappah in a statement.

Peel police said they are working with Trillium Heath Partners “to ensure the safety and security of all staff and patrons.”
