Thorold man charged after three officers assaulted in hallway skuffle

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a disturbance call in Thorold lead to several police officers being assaulted.

On November 6 at 5:15 pm, the Niagara Police were called to the scene in the Merrittville Highway and Sir Isaac Brock Way area after hearing a man was causing a disturbance inside a hallway of a building.

They quickly found him and while speaking to him, he suddenly attacked the officers without warning, punching and pushing them.

He continued to “struggle violently” while they tried to arrest him. Even after being tazed and handcuffed, he continued to fight the officers. The three officers involved received minor injuries.

Sopuruchi Anyaele, 19, of Thorold has been charged with three counts of assaulting a peace officer and a single count of resisting arrest.

He was released with a future court date on January 17, 2023 at the courthouse in St. Catharines.
