When St Catherines MP Chris Bittle, Niagara Centre MP Vance Badawey and Oakville MP Anita Anand got together yesterday (July 19) in St Catharines, it turned quickly into a Science Field Trip.

The trio stopped into Thorold’s Norgen Biotek Corporation to see first-hand how the company produces their RNA purification kits, a key component for COVID-19 lab testing across Canada.

The trip was of particular interest to Anand who’s the federal Minister of Public Services and Procurement, and as such is responsible for getting vaccines into the country.

Meeting with Norgen’s founder and CEO Dr. Haj-Ahmad, the threesome got the full tour of the facilities.

As the host MP, Badawey took particular pride in his constituent’s contribution in the war on COVID-19.

“Norgen Biotek Corp. has grown and is expanding rapidly since it first opened its doors over 20 years ago,” Badawey said on social media.

“As Minister Anita Anand, MP Chris Bittle and I visited their facility in Thorold and met with Norgen’s founder-CEO Dr. Haj-Ahmad and his team, I’m reminded that this innovative Canadian manufacturer is the workplace of choice for 80 hardworking residents in the Niagara region, up from 45 workers just before the pandemic.”

He pointed to the fact that Norgen Biotech partnered with the federal government “since August 2020 to produce RNA purification kits that continue to support the life-saving public health efforts of all provinces and territories to this day.”
