This Week’s Weather: Warm and muggy stretch ahead for southern Ontario before rain returns

The final week of July will bring warm temperatures and muggy conditions to southern Ontario, with sunny periods, scattered showers and the possibility of thunderstorms.

Here’s what the weather will look like for the week of July 26 to Aug. 1:

Sunday starts off mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon and the risk of a thunderstorm. Afternoon temperatures climb to 28 C, although the humidex will make it feel more like 34 C.

By evening, skies become partly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm. Overnight temperatures will fall to 20 C.

A mix of sun and cloud returns Monday, along with a 40 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon and the possibility of thunderstorms. Daytime highs are expected to reach 28 C, but humid conditions will make it feel closer to 33 C.

The UV index will hit a very high 9. Environment Canada recommends taking precautions when the UV index reaches 3 or higher, including wearing sunscreen, sunglasses and protective clothing while limiting prolonged sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.

Monday night remains cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers as temperatures dip to 18 C.

Rain moves in Tuesday, with daytime temperatures topping out at 26 C. Cloudy skies and a 30 per cent chance of rain continue overnight as lows settle at 16 C.

Wednesday brings a mix of sun and clouds with a 30 per cent chance of showers. Temperatures peak at 25 C before cloudy periods return overnight and lows cool to 14 C.

Sun and clouds return Thursday, with daytime temperatures reaching 27 C. Cloudy periods continue into the evening as temperatures ease to 15 C.

Friday offers another mix of sun and clouds, with temperatures soaring to 28 C. Cloudy skies roll in overnight as lows dip to 17 C.

Cloudy skies wrap up the week on Saturday with a 40 per cent chance of rain. Temperatures reach 27 C before slipping to 21 C in the evening, although it will feel closer to 24 C because of the humidity.
