This week’s weather: Mostly sunny and warm week ahead for southern Ontario

Last week, southern Ontario experienced hot and humid conditions with rain and cooling thunderstorms kicking in by the weekend.

This week, the region will see a return to high temperatures and abundant sunshine with minimal rain.

As of today (June 9) it will be mainly cloudy with  a 40 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon, which could potentially turn into a thunderstorm by the evening.

Daytime temperatures will rise to 19 C, where it will remain for the greater part of the day.

In the afternoon, it will become quite windy, with speeds reaching up to 50 km/h in Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, and Hamilton, while Durham will experience higher speeds of 60 km/h.

By the evening, temperatures will drop to 10 C.

It’s going to be a gloomy start to Monday with overcast skies. Temperatures will rise to a comfortable 16 C—making it the coolest day of the week!

The UV index will hit moderate or level 3. Environment Canada advises protecting your skin when the UV index is three or higher, particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., even on cloudy days.

Additionally, Health Canada says that if outdoors, individuals should seek shade, wear protective clothing and hats, apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, avoid tanning, and use UV-protective sunglasses.

Closer to the evening, the overcast skies will remain, while temperatures will fall to 9 C—making it the coolest night of the week.

Sunshine and clear skies return on Tuesday, and temperatures are anticipated to climb to 22 C. The clear skies will stay until the evening as temperatures dip to 11 C.

Wednesday is going to bring on sunshine with cloudy periods. Daytime temperatures will move up to 25 C. The skies will turn cloudy by evening, with temperatures expected to drop 10 degrees to 16 C. While slightly cooler, it will still be a relatively warm night.

Thursday and Friday will feature a mix of sun and clouds, with a 30 to 40 per cent chance of rain throughout the day. Daytime temperatures will soar between 25 C and 27 C. By evening, there is a 30 per cent chance of rain returning, with nighttime temperatures hovering around 16 C.

On Saturday, sunshine and crystal clear skies will welcome the weekend. Temperatures will reach 24 C, gradually falling to 13 C by the evening.

If you’re planning outdoor activities or running errands, Tuesday through Saturday are ideal, though you might want to keep an umbrella or raincoat handy for Thursday and Friday due to potential rain.

Warm temperatures will persist the following week of June 16, ranging from 19 C to 27 C. Residents can expect varied weather, with a mix of sunshine, rain, and cloudy skies.
