Though fall is in full swing, it seems summer is making a brief comeback in southern Ontario over the next seven days. Expect sunshine and temperatures soaring above 20 C for the first half of the week before dipping below the teens as the weekend approaches. Rain and cloudy skies will make an appearance midweek, but cooler nights will remind us that autumn’s crispness isn’t far behind.
As of today (Oct. 20), the forecast suggests a foggy and brisk start to the morning, but don’t be deceived by the early chill. A surge of summer-like warmth is expected to sweep in later, bringing bright sunshine and mild temperatures that may make you forget it’s actually autumn.
Wind speeds could reach up to 40 km/h, easing up by late afternoon.
Daytime temperatures will reach to 22 C with the UV index climbing to a moderate level 4. Environment Canada advises protecting your skin when the UV index is three or higher, particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
By evening, skies will remain clear, though clouds are expected to move in near midnight. Windy conditions may also return with gusts reaching up to 40 km/h. Temperatures will fall to 13 C.
Monday will start with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures will rise to 24 C, making it the warmest day of the week. By afternoon, it will be slightly windy at 20 km/h. The skies will clear up by the evening as temperatures drop to 11 C.
Tuesday brings sunshine and crystal-clear skies. Daytime highs will hit 23 C, where it will remain for the greater part of the day. The sky will remain clear by evening while temperatures move to 14 C.
On Wednesday, temperatures will peak at 21 C under mostly cloudy skies with sunny intervals. There’s a 40 to 60 per cent chance of rain throughout the day, but by evening, temperatures are expected to drop significantly from 21 C to a chilly 3 C, marking an 18-degree swing that will be felt as the day shifts to night.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be a mix of sun and clouds. Daytime temperatures are anticipated to hover between 11 C and 13 C while the evenings will bring cloudy periods and a chill between 2 C and 3 C.
Residents in southern Ontario may want to take advantage of the warmer temperatures earlier this week, but as the week progresses, having a sweater, jacket and umbrella on hand will be essential as cooler nights and rain creep in.
