Thirty-nine new COVID-19 cases in Durham – 15 from Oshawa

There were 39 new COVID-19 cases in Durham Region Thursday, including 15 in Oshawa, as the numbers are slowly climbing in the wrong direction.

Oshawa’s 15 new cases give them 55 in the past seven days, which is nearly eight per day and the highest in the region. Ajax recorded 10 new cases Thursday for a seven-day average of six. There are 188 active cases of the virus in Durham.

Three people are in hospital with two in ICU.

The food news is the outbreak at Hillsdale Estates long term care home in Oshawa appears to be over. Thirty-two residents and staff were affected by the virus in the outbreak which began a month ago on August 26. Eight residents died.

There are still nine school and day care outbreaks and there are now two workplace outbreaks: one ongoing in construction and a new outbreak in a manufacturing facility.
