Thirty-five school bus routes cancelled today, including 16 in Clarington and 12 in Whitby

After a few days of promising improvements to the school bus driver shortage that has made life difficult for operators, parents and students alike, Thursday’s numbers (April 20) are less than promising with 35 routes cancelled across Durham Region, including 16 in Clarington.

Clarington Central Secondary and Clarington Central Intermediate schools are the most affected today with six routes servicing those school cancelled. Other schools in Clarington looking at cancelled routes are St. Jospeh, St. Stephen, St. Francis of Assisi and Holy Family in the Catholic system and Lydia Trull and Newcastle public elementary schools.

Whitby has 12 routes cancelled, with six schools affected: Julie Payette, St. Paul, Sir William Stephenson, St. Bernard, St. Mark the Evangelist and Sinclair Secondary. Ajax has five routes axed, including Alexander Graham Bell, Denis O’Connor and Lincoln Alexander (AM only), while a morning and afternoon run at SA Cawker in Port Perry is also cancelled.
