A third Hillsdale Estate resident is dead after a COVID-19 outbreak at the Oshawa long-term care home that began August 26.

There are still 12 residents and seven staff who are isolating with the virus. Five residents and three staff members of the Region of Durham-owned facility who tested positive are now considered resolved.

“It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of one of our residents today, who was COVID-19 positive and in hospital,” a Hillsdale spokesperson said on the Durham Region web site. “We would like to thank you for your continued support during this difficult time.”

The spokesperson said all residents are expected to be provided with their third ‘booster’ shot next Wednesday.

The Hillsdale resident died Thursday, September 9.
