Third man charged for April murder in St Catharines

An April encounter in St Catharines between a group of men, leaving one dead, has seen Niagara Police charge three men with murder and related crimes.

On April 12 at 8:30 pm, police were called to the scene in the parking lot at Oakridge Public School, 1 Marsdale Drive, in St. Catharines.

Once there, they found Yan Jing, 32, laying on the ground with gunshot wounds. He was quickly taken to the hospital when he was pronounced dead.

Police believe a meeting was set up where Jing and other victims met with the suspects to exchange Canadian currency for Chinese currency for a cheaper rate than offered by banks. When the victims arrived, they were robbed.

After a lengthy investigation, police have arrested three people in relation to this homicide. 

On August 19, Heng “Allen” Du, 25, a Chinese National, from Richmond Hill, was charged with accessory to murder and breach of probation. He had a bail hearing on August 20 and was put into custody. 

On August 27, Fang “Fionna” Wang, 22, a Chinese National, from Richmond Hill, was charged with first degree murder. He appeared for a bail hearing on August 28 and was put into custody.

Finally, today (September 2), Jiapeng “Jimmy” Wu, 20, a Chinese National, from Toronto, was also charged with first degree murder, He is scheduled to make a video bail court appearance today at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.  

The investigation into this homicide remains ongoing as police believe that there are more persons responsible for this crime.
