Thieves steal almost $100,000 from ATMs at gas stations in Burlington, Oakville

Three gas stations in Burlington and Oakville were robbed of nearly $100,000 earlier this month.
Halton police received a report from the company that owns ATMs in several locations in Halton reporting the thefts.
Each of the machines had cash stolen and there is no evidence of damage or forced entry on any of them.
The thefts occurred:
- Oct. 14 – Shell Gas on Appleby Line (approx $22,000)
- Oct. 14 – Shell Gas on Rebecca St. (approx $26,000)
- Oct. 15 – Shell Gas on Guelph Line (approx $50,000)
“These incidents are being investigated across Ontario as it appears the theives have been able to hack into the ATM machine software in order to obtain the cash inside,” said a police spokesperson.
“RCMP Cyber Crime is collating the theft reports from various jurisdictions.”
Tips about the thefts can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or at the website.
