Thieves tried to bust their way into two Oakville homes recently in a quest for keys to steal high-end cars.

Halton Regional Police say the first incident occurred on Saturday, Nov. 16 just after 4 a.m. on Lakeshore Road.

In this case, the culprits were unsuccessful but police believe their motive was to grab keys to take a luxury vehicle.

A short time later, police say two suspects went to an address in the area of Third Line and Rebecca Street and smashed a front window with a hammer. The suspects then entered the home and stole the keys to a Mercedes SUV parked in the driveway. The suspects then stole the SUV. The residents did not have any interaction with the thieves and were not physically injured.

Shortly after these break-ins, police located the stolen SUV travelling in tandem with an Audi. The vehicles were travelling at high rates of speed and not stopping at red lights.

The Audi was later located by police abandoned in the area of Dorval Drive and Kerr Street. It was reported stolen out of Peel region.

Investigators believe these break-ins are related and Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216.
